Life comes at you fast.
And, if you’re an entrepreneur it comes at you faster.
And, if you’re an entrepreneur building in the golden age of vibe coding, then it’s approaching at lightspeed.
One minute you’re building this cool, new personal finance product that you wish existed and the next, you see that ChatGPT has just launched something eerily similar and now panicking.
This past Friday, May 15th, ChatGPT, the world’s most popular retail LLM, launched a CHUMP competitor for their Pro user base.
I can honestly say that never before had a social media post made me feel so many mixed emotions in under 2 minutes. This one OpenAI tweet was the realization that my product, CHUMP, is just a new ChatGPT feature, as Mark Cuban says.

My gut reaction to this ChatGPT news was WHAT THE F$CK! OpenAI is a billion dollar company and ChatGPT is a household name at this point, so how can I compete?
I remember feeling for a long time, albeit likely only a couple of minutes, like just throwing in the towel. Torching CHUMP and moving onto the next, alas cooler heads prevailed.
After the shock of seeing the equivalent of a 1,000 Goliaths (OpenAI) bring your idea to market via a casual Friday morning tweet, I, the mini-David in this biblical analogy, realized that this was the best thing that’s ever happened to CHUMP.
Why?
Because, OpenAI, a leader in the AI conversation, just validated CHUMP. It validated the idea that securely connecting your bank account via Plaid to AI to give users a better grasp on their personal finances is a worthwhile endeavor. An endeavor that I now feel very inspired to bring to market via CHUMP.
However, the flip side of this new inspiration is the realization that I need to completely rethink my go-to-market strategy. Originally, I had planned to do 2-3 weeks of prototyping in May followed by 2-3 weeks of live beta testing with a select group of users in June and then fully publicly launch in late June. However, thanks to OpenAI, the original timeline is out the window, as I’m now trying to fully, publicly launch CHUMP ASAP.

With that said, I’m going to cut this a little shorter than usual and get back to building CHUMP.
As always – nothing replaces action.
See you next Tuesday.
